Over 5, one hour workshops, I explain our Pacific Tusitala history, collaborate with students on a piece about what issues our people are facing today (e.g. Identity, climate change, land.) Give them space to write an individual piece, guide them through performance techniques and piece delivery, then work together on show casing their new skills and poems to an audience. I started this project with the hope of igniting a flame in other Pacific adolescents to get in touch with their roots and confidently share their stories like generations before us did. By doing so I believe we are creating a safe space for the future of our islands to grow, so that when our land is swallowed by man’s selfishness, our culture can live on through what we wrote and spoke.
